American singer Jennifer Lopez has opened up about her mindset following her divorce from actor Ben Affleck, revealing her reflections on self-love and future relationships.
More than a month after filing for divorce, Lopez candidly discussed how her world “exploded” this year and the personal growth that followed.
In an interview with comedian Nikki Glaser for Interview Magazine (published on 9 October), the singer explained, “You have to be complete if you want something that’s more complete. I thought I’d learned that, but I hadn’t. This summer, I realised I needed to go off and be on my own”, as reported by E! News.
Without directly mentioning Affleck, Lopez added, “Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t be searching for happiness in others. I have to find happiness within myself.”
As for her current outlook on dating, Lopez noted she’s not interested in romance right now, saying, “There’s no new bar because I’m not looking for anybody. I’m focused on flying solo.”
Reflecting on the end of her marriage, Lopez admitted it wasn’t what she expected, but she believes it’s led her to where she needs to be. Despite the emotional toll of the breakup, she has no regrets, emphasising, “Not for one second. It almost took me out for good, but now I see it was exactly what I needed”, reported by E! News.
Lopez, mother to 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony, also addressed the false narratives surrounding her life, stating, “I know who I am, and I know I’m a good person, a good mum. My friends and family know who I am.”
She also shared how stepping back from her career, including cancelling a tour, was necessary to focus on herself and her children. “It was the hardest time of my life, but also the best, because I was able to do that work on myself.”
As for her return to the spotlight, Lopez assured fans, “I’ll be back on stage and shaking my ass sooner than you think.”
